well, ashley's dad has a 92 with the nv4500 conversion on it. he called me today and said its making some horrible chattering /grinding noise that started in 5th and now makes it in 3,4, and 5. sounds like the 4500 death rattle eh? i told him that bogging it in 5th was bad, but he does it anyways  . he also shifts clutchless all the time  . wheres a good place to get a rebuild kit? something we can do in a weekend? should we throw a new clutch in it? or just keep the old one if it looks okay, it gets the bouncies when reversing, maybe glased over? thanks guys!

alrighty guys, i really need your help. we pulled the trans out, pulled the tail housing and top cover off. dont see anything wrong. but the said it really starts making noise in 3rd then progressively gets louder and faster in 4th and 5th. think its a bearing? the 5th gear nut is fine.

Sounds like your bearings may be worn, though the Getrag is more my area of expertise. I'd say get a rebuild kit (bearings and synchros), and put it in. Set up the preload as per FSM instructions, and go from there.

I'd also pull the clutch and look at it as well. Mine gets chattery in 2nd and reverse, but it also has close to 300K on it, and many were unkind miles.
