It's time to rebuild the NV4500 - bearings I think.

Anyone know of a good rebuilder in the Sacramento, Californial area that has prooven expertise with this transmission?

Thanks,

Paul

I suggest going with an expert like Standard Trans (800-std-tran) who incorporates the fully splined mainshaft and understands the clearances needed, etc. Sure, shipping costs will be involved, but the overall cost is still less than many shops charge while doing a less satisfactory job, imho.

I did what Joe said. Ask questions when you get quotes from local shops and you may get a variety of answers you know are wrong. Total cost from Standard incuding transportation was about 1K.

It works well now.

If you are experienced enough and able to pull the transmission yourself, I can put you in touch with a shop I know that will drop ship from New Venture a brand new in the crate transmission for right at $2000. 00 with NV covered warranty of 12 months unlimited miles. Since it is a brand new transmission, there is no core charge, so you can sell your old one to someone who needs one, Jeep freaks will snatch it up in working order or not, especially the dodge diesel version as it is heavier than the GM version.

I don't even bother rebuilding them anymore as this is a two to three day turn around for me going this route. I have put them in over 1/2 dozen friends trucks with not a single complaint, lots of thanks though.

Let me know if I can help. He can ship them anywhere on a drop shipment, so long as you take care of the funds first, hard to get money out of someone when you have nothing but an address to go by.

Tried It Once

Rebuild that is..... I used a shop in SAc that was well reccomended, well it gernaded in about 300 mi. they set it up to tight. I went with a Standard transmission rebuild with all the inside upgrades. No down time when I went with a shop they had the transmission for a week.

Thanks All,

A new trans from the factory is entertaining - but has NV gone to a fully splined mainshaft or are the new replacements for a 95 Dodge still lacking 5th gear durability? I thought NV upgraded the trans in 98 or so but am I stuck with the 95 version?

Regarding the resale of my current NV4500 - it's 2wd - don't the jeepers want a 4wd unit with a transfercase? How much would they pay for a 2wd considering it's still functional?

What did they replace for $1000 at standard trans?
