Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) NV4500 Repair

Looking at purchasing an NV4500 for my auto swap in my 97. Found one for a good price but the owner said "the 5th gear on the counter shaft is chipped. " What does that mean and what all needs to be fixed? The transmission is also missing a top cover which is alright because it is a 97 transmission and I would like the 98 and up cover for the shorter shifts. Also how much do you guys think would be the total for the repairs and missing parts? Thanks
