Does anybody know of a temperature sensor that is made that is big enough to fit in place of the filler plug on the NV4500. This would be an ideal place to mount such a device, I'm thinking.

John, you could probably find a reducer to make the transition. I wonder how accurate the readings would be where the sender was not immersed in the oil. Perhaps at the next oil change, you could find someone to weld a pipe fitting on the PTO cover for a completely immersed reading. Steve

I'm thinking it would be pretty accurate. The Mag-Hytec uses the top of the cover for it's sensor mount and it's impossible to have it immersed completely in oil. On the transmission, the sensor would be much closer to the oil relatively speaking, than the differential sensor. I'll have to find the thread size for that plug and see if I can get a reducer.

The sender (VDO) is 1/8" pipe and the filler plug is (guess) 3/4" pipe. I'll pick up the sender tomorrow and sometime this weekend take the filler plug out and go get a adapter or two. I can give you a list of needed adapters if you want. I wonder if VDO makes a 1/4" sender... Hit redial and ask Mr Napa.

3/4 would have been my guess. I've got inquiries out on that. Geno's 1/4 sender should do the trick. That might be the way I go. It's free with the Westach gauge. Give me the P/N's on whatever you find. Thanks.

I just measured the fill plug, . 945", think now, high school math class, decimal to fraction. Funny, I can remember the short dress that sat next to me better then... I think that the fewer reducers the better, VDO offers it in 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 5/8 senders. The 1/2 has a 250F idiot light in addition to the regular gauge setup. Choices, Choices... http://www.egauges.com/vdo_send.asp?Sender=300F_150C

I mounted my sensor in the rear end cover fill hole with reducers and it works great. I believe that the exact temp of the oil is less imortant than to establish a base line temp and then monitor for excess temp rise.

Uh, yupp!

Dittos on that Deezul. Baselining is a good thing. I'm kicking myself because I didn't do it earlier. Oh well.
