Has any one had problems with the NP205 transfer case adapter breaking bolts?
I have a 1992 W350, which has the Advance Adapters bell housing to use a NV4500 in place of the G360. I bought the truck at an auction and 4th gear was grinding, I tried driving it from Ohio to WV (about 400 miles) and the trans started leaking, I had picked up the right oil and topped it off before I started. Kept stopping and adding but locked up within 40 miles of home. While waiting for another trans I ordered a kit and put all new seals in the transfer case which is when I found 3 of the 8 bolts (3/8x1 1/4) broken. I drilled and got them out no problem, got the replacement trans and put it all back together. Ran about 600 miles doing short trips, no heavy work other than a couple tons of sand for a swimming pool. I had no problems, then I headed back to Ohio same 400 mile trip as before and around 300 mile point I was leaking again. Now its Sunday no dealers open to get the SynTorq, so I bought 3 quarts Mobil 1 gear lube and kept it full to my Ohio property. When I pulled it apart the cork gasket between the trans adapter and transfer case was all messed up and 2 of the 8 bolts were broke again (1 new & 1 old bolt) this time all 8 new (same grade 5 as stock), and high temp permatex was used. I left it in Ohio until I can get some local miles again because I had to be back to WV for work.
