I was pulling a horse trailer (10k #) loaded from the bay area to oregon when my clutch started to act up and not disengage when i pressed the pedal in when i arrived in oregon for the start of my hunting trip. As a result, i didn't drive the truck for a week and then stopped by a couple of diesel shops in La Grande on the way home. Both shops said i needed a new clutch but couldn't get one until late the next day. Because i had horses and they said it would be Ok to drive without a clutch i crept home (900 miles). When i did get back i had a new South Bend OFE installed and the hydraulic unit replaced. The clutch was said to be Ok with some wear but since it was torn apart and i want to do some upgrades i put in the new clutch. Well now that ive got it back im getting grinding from 2nd to 3rd gear and im betting i fouled up the synco's in the NV 4500. I just wanted to get some feedback, can or should i drive it like this babying from 2nd to 3rd or do i need to drop the transmission and have it rebuilt? I live in the bay area so any recommendations on where to go would be appreciated.
