I had a pretty similar situation take place yesterday. Me and a buddy were heading to a roping and 3 miles from the arena, I think my transmission took a dump. We were heading up a hill, I was in 5th gear around 1600-1700 rpm and I went to downshift to 4th, I put it in 4th and it felt like I was in neutral, then the clunking of metal began. We were going around a blind curve so I tried to keep going to a place where it would be safe to stop, I tried a few different gears, finally I got it into 1st and it went a few hundred feet, clunking the whole way then that finally gave out. We had a guy pull us up to a turnout and called AAA and had them haul the truck back home while we went to the roping. The only weird thing is that when I unhooked my trailer and was waiting for my buddy to come pick up the trailer and horses, I was able to get into 4th gear and move my truck away from my trailer. What does it sound like happened? Anyone have any recommendations for a shop to fix whatever it is that went wrong. The truck is in So Cal at my parents, Hesperia to be exact, but I do need to get back up to Las Vegas in the next week or so, so Joe if you have any recommendations for a transmission guy in that area please let me know. Oh by the way the truck has about 220,000 miles on it.
Thanks
Kyle
