See alot of guys with alot of horsepower, what kind of problems are they having with the 5 spd trans?

Heard that 5th gear can be as well as the clutch. I'm thinking of some HP upgrades but don't need to be replacing the transmission every month. Would it be safe to have 300-350 HP going through this trans?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A fully splined mainshaft will hold that power. Truthfully a standard mainshaft probably would but you'll likely have to be in there to fix fifth gear anyway so I'd fully spline it. It's not so much an issue of adding too much power, just having to much to start with. That gear box is rated at something like 520 ft/lbs torque.

You know, I bumped up my motor about two years ago to about 330hp and around 700 lbs torque and I never had a problem with the NV4500. I could slip the clutch if I tried, but most of the time it was just fine unless towing to the max. I saved all my nickels and dimes and went for the SBC OFE and a six gear. I am going to stab it in this weekend. I think if you drive it with respect it will be OK
