I just installed a reman NV 4500 and I was wondering if I should run it a few hundred miles and then change the fluid after it gets broke in, or is there not really a break-in period on transmissions.
make sure you keep checking the fluid. i'm not sure on changing it. I went threw three remans before i got a good one. So make sure it's not leaking. 4500 is very finicky on low fluid they'll burn up real easy and blow fluid out if it gets low.
I just put one in my truck last month also and the transmission shop who I got my reman through told me to dump in 4 quarts of fluid before I put in the shift tower and then take it out and work it hard if I can ( which is no problem for me). He said there is no break in period required but working it hard will get it to start shifting smoother quicker. He was right! My transmission works great and shifts better than ever. The shop I got mine from also puts in a fully splined mainshaft during the rebuild process.
I would say if it makes you feel better go ahead and change the oil but I'm not gonna until I get to the change interval. I don't feel comfortable dumping $50. 00 in oil in the waste burner.
