who makes the best reman nv4500? fifth gear main and countershaft gears denigrated and sent shrapnel thru the trans not sure i dare trust it or not just replacing the gears

qaud 4x4 doesnt sell complete trans and standard transmission uses cheap Chinese parts anybody got any other experiences / ideas

I am installing a Trans from Standard Trans and can't talk highly enough about them. We bought all hydro's and clutch and pressure plate and ended up having to get a few other thing's and all it Took was a Call or E mail and it was sent .

I know many folks that have more than 250K miles on their NV4500 s and will probably go to over half million miles. There is an important thing that most folks don't know, these transmissions are not "lube for life" and that you "must" change oil at least every 100K or less and only use Syntorque GL4 (sold by GM,Dodge and others ) I used the incorrect oil in my 99 DTC 4x4 at 111K and theNV4500 failed at 222K because the oil failed, it was Amzoil Severe Gear 75-140W and I called them and they said that failure was because it was not GL4 spec so I studied that and also replaced the transmission and used Amzoil with the GL4 Specs. An expensive lesson on my part. There were a couple of lengthy posts about a year ago discussing my problems.

i am pulling the trans tomorrow see the extent of the damage maybe it wont be to bad . this trans has 245000 miles and has lost fifth gear 3 times in its life . i only use the recommended oil which now i hear is no longer available i also run a trans filter and change the oil annually

Just bought a NV4500 from Standard Trans from Texas and it came with all the Oil needed to fill it . Check Amazon it was also listed there for sale .

Likewise, I think you can still get the oil from GM, but, I would just go to Amzoil and get their GL 4 rated oil, I talked with their customer service folks and they know what they are tallking about. You might look on Ebay or in Craigs List for a transmission, I found mine a year ago on ebay (new still in Mopar box) but not cheap and had the revised output shaft mod that was supposed to fix the 5th gear nut comming off problem. Good Luck!!

Standard Transmission in Tucson for the best quality rebuild. This is my second rebuild by ST, the first one came out of Texas and had some vibration at low RPMs and lasted 120k, when it started slipping out of 5th gear.
10K on the Tucson ST rebuild and it is shifting smoother than the the original.
Look them up on the Internet and you will be in good hands.

Well since the gears in the main case looked so good and the trans was working good I ordered new gears from quad 4x4.
