Did the NV4500 find its way into any of the first generation Diesel trucks? Or were they all Getrags? I've read that Dodge began using the NV4500 in 1993. I know conversions are available. I'm wondering If I can find all the features I want in a used truck without doing any conversions.

Are PTO's available for the Getrag? Are they more expensive?

Hi Don, To my knowledge, the NV4500 didn't start until the '94 model trucks. Production of the '94's probably started in late '93 though. There's another post called "transmission replacement" going on this subject too. :)

Don

From what I understand all PTO's are build to SAE standards so within a certain class of transmissions PTO's should inner change. With that said I believe the same PTO will fit ether transmission.

If I've mis-stated on this subject someone please jump in and correct my error!

Hey Crew Cab

Have you seen one of these personally? do you know, short of crawling under, is there a way to tell from a build code or the vin?

Thanks

paychk going by hte 93 parts cataloge the nv 4500 should have a plastic bezel on the shifter boot and 6 screws insted of the 4 on the getrag but I have never seen one in person sorry I cant help more. George

looked in the book and mopar does nt use a tanny number in the vin on the trucks the dody code shows transmission as postions39-41 but I cant find find the codes in this stupid thang for what he diffirnet trannys are

To identify which trans is in particular truck, look at the shifter location. The Getrag is almost against the heater box and the 4500 is about 6" further back.
