Did the shifting improve when you replaced your stock clutch? Did you replace the hydraulic clutch linkage, mic the pilot bearing/input shaft to measure clearance, replace the pilot bearing or something else?

I finally called NVG and spoke with several engineers there and they said the 5600 should shift much, much better than a 4500. Well mine doesn't. They told me to check for proper clutch by 'almost' shifting into reverse and letting the clutch out - I should be able to hear the syncros/blocking rings 'grinding' (said not to worry - this won't hurt trans) and then push the clutch peddle back to the floor and count how long it takes for the noise to subside. It should subside within a count of 2 otherwise the clutch isn't fully disengaging/dragging. Well mine doesn't subside for a count of 3 to almost 4 so I'm thinking that is the root of my shifting problem. I can't shift into 1st (granny low) without grinding unless I come to a COMPLETE stop.

As some of you may recall my transmission was replaced under warranty after the mainshaft was replaced. Neither solved the problem. The only thing that made shifting better was the addition of LSD friction modifier to my trans fluid and it shifted like butter for about a week. My theory is that the friction modifier was just slippery enough to compensate for the drag from the input shaft and gave me nice buttery shifts for a little while. I know I can run Redline MTL but I want the problem solved not covered up. I'm taking my truck back to the dealer on Friday for another go around.

No difference with my Con OFe but I've always been happy with mine, although it is tough to get it into 1st at much more than walking pace.

I know my clutch disconnects cleanly - when I am in neutral, and hold the clutch in for a few seconds and then release it the motor rpms drop and pick up to spin the input shaft (small load).

Have you checked if you are in spec for slave travel? Is there a spec for it?

HMMMMM

I've yet to drive a NV 5600 that is smoother then the NV 4500 and I am on my 2nd 5600 since DC told me theres some defective gear sets out there.

This new trans is not as notchey but still is going into 4th.

DC filled my trans with 6 liters of lube! They claimed New Venture suggested that. I know that the LSD additive is a dealer fix that does not work... it will actually do more harm then good to the synchros... at least that is what NV told another guy on the DTR site.

Apparently the 5600 has smaller bearings then the 4500 too.

There isn't a spec that I'm aware of. And I don't feel like trying to hold the clutch pedal down for a day to see if there is a bleed down problem... .....

The engineers at NVG that I spoke with were a bit suprised at DC recommendation to add LSD friction modifier although they didn't say it would cause more problems than solve.
