Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Nv5600 Eth

I have a 5600 out of a 2001. It was pulled at the dealer because of transmission noise complaints. I am going to put it in my 97 but I want to have it checked out first. I checked the oil and it didn't have any metal in it. Can anyone recommend a reliable shop in So Cal to check out this trans? I am also putting a U S Gear underdrive on it at the same time.
