I went through a bunch of old posts but didn't really come up with a united decision between members.
So what is everybody using these days?

I don't want to use the Pennzoil Synchromesh because it isn't synthetic and I believe it's a "less than" compared to stock juice.

Is the Amsoil stuff hold up? Which one?

Royal Purple?

Stock stuff?

I want to use the best and don't care about price.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

What's in yours now and how did it do? If your transmission likes it stick with it appears to be the answer.

I found the AMSOIL takes a little to "break in" as cold it didn't want to shift blowing past the syncro's and grinding. It was night and day instant shift feel change after the oil change. Few thousand miles later and this winter it's doing as well as the fluid that was in it. The factory fluid change at 50K then existing fluid with 50K (assumed correct Dodge oil) on it was sheared down to a 10 weight. How much this and the added higher oil level made a difference I can't say. I about changed it back out till it settled down. I wouldn't push the life of any oil in the NV5600.

Last 2 changes I have been using Amsoil. Have found it runs cooler and takes a lot longer to get up to temp, running fast coolers and a temp gauge in the drivers side cooler. Might have to copy Rvtrkns cooler set up he fabbed up since it appears the dually is not going anywhere anytime soon.

You'll be able to see my setup at May Madness, are you going to be there MMeier?

Blumenthals has their own oil I believe, that they use with their remanufactured NV5600's. BTW, they are the official OEM authorized NV5600 manufacturer. I would tend to stay with what they recommend. But I don't have a NV5600, for now anyway.

Coming up on 100K miles with Amsoil. My NV shifts better than my dads G56, and shifts well enough the local diesel shop asked what fluid I run as its one if the better shifting NV's he had driven.

Should be popping up sometime probably at night after work . Hmmm, nv 5600, wonder where one could find one of those nowadays?

Yeah, the contact lady told me they manufacture NV5600 parts in house. I asked what they recommend for the G-56 and she said ATF+4.

My friend's NV5600 shifts easier than my G-56. He runs Mopar fluid. I do prefer the tight gates of the G-56 though.

The biggest difference I have noticed with my G56 using heavier vrs lighter oils is the ability to shed the heat easier, and is maybe why Mopar chose ATF, but my trans cooler allows me to run the heavier oil.

Well I changed it out with Amsoil Synchromesh and I have to say the difference is startling.
All the notchiness of third gear is gone - it's slips into that gear just as easily as any other. In fact all the gear changes are like butter now including reverse.
I wish I had used this stuff at the first change.
Now if I get rid of this hideous clutch it will be like driving another vehicle.
Thanks for the great advice!

Scott
