i need parts & anyone need a 6speed? nv 5600? no core?

I need a 4BT CPL.....

I am in the middle of a six speed conversion in a 93 4x4 Club Cab 1 Ton. I was wanting if anyone can help me on a few things.

1. It looks like I will need to cut a new hole in the floor for the shifter to come through. What kind of boot can I use to make a clean install when the shifter comes through the floor.

2. Crossmember on the tailhousing. Can I fabricate a plate and use my existing crossmember or do I need to buy one out of a later model truck and fabricate it to my older frame??

3. Can the old coupler that mates the six speed transmission to the transfer case be used. I am talking about my old one that was mated to the Getrag transmission. Both are 29 spline shafts... Is this a simple bolt in affair???

I have already mounted the engine plate adapter, bought a clutch and flywheel from South Bend Clutch and am aware of lengthening/shortening of the driveshafts... I am in the middle of this project and just looking for some pointers on what is in store for me down the road on this project.

All help appreciated.

You will have to cut a new hole for the gear shift about 4 inches back of the current hole. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I believe I will be able to reuse the old boot(s).

If you are mating the NP205 Transfer case, the 29-spline coupler will be too long. I mated the two up and had about 5/8" gap. Do NOT try to take up the gap by torqueing the attaching bolts. You Will do expensive damage. Take the coupler a machine shop and ask them to shorten one end by 11/32". When you get it back, try it on the transfer case, paying attention to the lip inside the coupler. The long side will rub against the bearing retainer. Turn it around and you will have clearance. Now try it on the transmission to make sure you are not rubbing that retainer. If all is clearing, then you can bolt the two together.

I used a piece of 5" x 11" flat bar 3/8" thick to make a mount for the transmission rubber mounts. Drill 4 holes to mate to the 7/16" bolts on the bottom of the transmission. Then cut 2 holes 1 3/8"

diameter located 1. 5" from each end. These will accept the rubber insulators.

The crossmember mounting was constructed by welding a 1/4" plate across the open side of the frame channel. Then drill 4 holes to use for mounting the actual crossmember.

The crossmember itself was made from 2"x4" x 0. 25" wall rectangular tube. I cut a 1/4" plate to match the ones installed in the frame. Made a diagonal piece to extend below the frame and welded the main crossmember to these. Four 1/2x13 Grade 8 bolts will support each side. I made a bracket with an 11/16 hole for each insulator bolt. This is where I am as I write this. None of it has been checked in service at this point.

When I complete this project I will post my results. I am writing a discription of the whole thing with instructions, part numbers, etc and will make it available to those who are interested.

I will try to answer email questions at "ghuguley@nwinternet.com"

I am very interested in both of your trials while doing this conversion. This is what I will be doing next year. Why settle for a 4500 when you can get a 5600 in the driveline!!!

Is it ok to continue this on a direct line (private email)?

Thanks, Rich

Hey!!!

What about me ??? I have many questions also!!:) I am thinking about taking my 3/4:mad: and putting the whole thing on the frame of a 1976 gmc 6500 plenty strong frame:D I want a 6spd duh!! who wouldnt!! getrag 2-3 looses power like a gasser. need a good rugged 4. 10 rear dually that my 19. 5s or 22. 5s will fit. also a good 4. 10 front with the same center holes.
