My 6 speed is leaking. There is a rather large nut in the right rear area of this transimission. It's almot directly above the crossmember. Looks to be at least 1"-1 1/4"I looked at it in my service manual and it gave a name, I don't have it with me and don't remember it off hand. Has anyone else had a problem with this?

I'm thinking (hoping) I can just back the nut out, and put some thread sealant on it and solve this problem. I sure hope it isn't a crack or anything of that nature.

Those of you that may have some experience rebuilding, or taking apart a 5600 trans might be able to provide some info as to what this nut enables you to do. thanks

From memory and looking in a 99 manual all I can think of is the "detent" plug and that should be on the right bottom of the extension housing, it has a spring and "plug" or "ball" that rides on the shift rail. I would check to see if it is tight and if so try to seal the washer. There is some pressure on that nut from the spring. I have not seen them leak but anything is possible.

Good Luck

Craig

there's a primary shift rail detent plug and a crossover cam detent. From the diagrams it sure looks like it's the crossover cam detent... which is in the extension housing. I think it's this one because of the back-up light switch (or what I think is the switch).

Think it'd be ok to just remove it and apply some thread sealer and stick it back in?
