I traded a couple notes recently with one of the techies over at Amsoil about their recommendations for our manual transmissions. He said their analysis of the stuff sold under the Mopar label for the 6 speed showed it to me nothing more than synthetic 5W-30 motor oil. I don't know what it's currently going for, but someone mentioned $20+ a quart a while back??

The reply I got from from NVG was Texaco MTX. You cannot purchase it because of a proprietary relationship to DC. You can, however, purchase Pennzoil "Synchromesh" which is a direct part number replacement for the Mopar ref number.

It is not synthetic. Neither is the Mopar.

$5 bucks versus $20.

quakerstate has a synchromesh oil also. which is the same as the penzoil except now in a green bottle instead of yellow... [and shell has one also, but either it's a little different, or their website has not been updated from the old info]

Synchromesh transmission fluid

I changed out the origional oil at 20,000 miles and put in the Pennzoil Synchromesh stuff. Noticed a slight difference right away in smoother shifting. I now have 40,000 miles on the truck and we´re back to notchy rough shifts so it must be time to change again. This mileage includes lots of towing at max weight.

I never did beleive the ¨lifetime ¨ fluid claim by DC. Something has to wear out inside that transmmision hauling 20,000lbs... fluid, gears, synchro´s... something!

The Pennzoil stuff is about $4. 50 a quart so I´ll just dump the old stuff evey 20k. Cheap insurance!
