Just did some checking on Dodgeparts.com which sells their OEM Mopar parts at discount.

The NV5600 for 2wd trucks is now $5070 and the 4wd NV5600 is now $43xx

:--)

The nv5600 is a strong transmission except for 6th gear (the "pocket bearing").

Just tow in 5th (or lower, of course) up all hills, even if you have to go 3000 rpm, and it should last a lot longer.

And when it breaks, I wonder how much it would cost to get this

MBT660-60A automated manual? It may be difficult for 4x4 adaptation... . , but it weighs the same as the nv5600, has the same overdrive, and is rated for 60,000 lb.

or this one without the automated shifting MBT660S-60 (next size up from G56)

I just replaced a 2005 2wd NV5600 last week from brg failure and can tell you that his bill was much lower than that including a clutch and labor.

Glad I got rid of my 05 with the NV5600. That was the worst transmission I ever had out of any manual or auto.

Wow. I've heard nothing but good about it. Granted it shifts like it has no synchros sometimes, but I always heard they were strong; at least to the rated GVWR.

You can't please everyone - and even the best of things CAN have problems, or owners who for their own reasons don't like them, justified or not.

In my own case, the 5600 was THE big reason for buying my truck - it's been flawless since new, fully lived up to all my expectations, and just keeps getting even smoother as the miles roll by.

Gary,

Sarcassium (spelling) won't get you a kiss from me even if you wanted one which you probably do but who knows maybe you don't, I guess it's just up to the mode your in.

D/C does list reman trans for the 5600 your parts man will just have to go to the correct book to find it.

I don't know what the hell that post is supposed to mean. . but i'm with Gary on this one. The NV5600 is a beast and the main reason I bought the truck. There's a few things I worry about on my '02... the transmission isn't one of them!

Just jerking garys chain for his negative post to me through nukeman.

It was the make or break deal on mine when i was looking at my Cummins diesel, next one may be an auto cause the older i get the better it feels when the Mrs can drive back and forth from our place at the lake. She doesn't like to drive a standard, and with all the upgrades i"v done to mine she may have a few problems driving, especially now with the 35's on and how big the truck is overall. Love my NV5600 on the highway/towing :D ,but it can be pig in the city, stop and go. :(

I'll have to join the crowd I guess - I have absolutely NO clue what he's upset about...

He apparently thinks my earlier post was aimed at him - he's wrong - but perhaps a translation of my earlier post will help:

You can't please everyone - and even the best of things CAN have problems, or owners who for their own reasons don't like them, justified or not.

OK,

"You can't please everyone" means just THAT, regardless of product, there will be SOME who don't like or WANT it.

Human nature, OK?

Next:

"even the best of things CAN have problems" - should be self explanatory - but means that NO product or device *I* am aware of is 100% failure proof - including the NV-5600!

And finally:

"or owners who for their own reasons don't like them, justified or not. " which simply means that SOME owners will dislike a product even if there ARE no specific problems - maybe the wrong size or color - no real "problem", they just don't like it!

JEEZE, I sure hope I don't have to diagram ALL my future posts for the benefit of the few paranoid readers who choose to imagine themselves as "victims" or "targets"! :-laf :-laf

BUT, in any event, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL! Oo. Oo.
