Well, after having the gutbag in the 1990 for 4 years it is doing what a gutbag does best. After 50K of racing, towing, daily driving, and running 820 ft/lbs through it, I can't really complain. I hear the input shaft bearing grinding, the slop and play in it is disgusting (let the clutch out and there is full clutch travel worth of play), and 1st gear is being a little #@$%! and won't let me into it! Sat at an intersection for 15 sec while cars honked while I was trying to slip, hop, dump, push, and gently shove it into 1st. I finally launched in 2nd. ;)

Soooo, its time for a transmission. And that means its time for a 5600. I have put together a list memory when I did it for the crew cab. Please help me ensure I did not miss anything. It has been a few years. This one is my daily driver. I want to make sure it is down for as short a time as possible! (not ike the crew. Its a 5. 5 years fixing its transmission! :D)

This list will also help those planning this in the future.

So I need:

1x - 1 3/8" input shaft NV5600
1x - Shift stick
1x - 6 speed shift cap
1x - Shift knob
1x - Inner boot
1x - Outer boot
1x - Trans rear rubber mount
1x - SBC clutch disk (already have the 5600 flywheel... just need the splined centre to change)
1x - Carpet (cutting new hole 6" further back..... )
1x - Mounting bracket for the crossmember to rubber mount
1x - Engine adapter plate (needed off a P pump motor due to longer input shaft)
1x - 20 ltr pail of trans fluid
1x - Throw out bearing (if I am in there, may as well change it!)
2x - New 1st gen rubber transmission mounts (o ring style)

As for things I will need to modify:

1x - NP205 shift rog
1x - Front driveshaft lengthen
1x - Rear drive shaft shorten
1x - Weld hole shut and cut new hole
1x - Lengthen wiring harness for back up light approx 1'
1x - Remove crossmember back 6"

Did I miss anything?

EDIT: I did miss a few things that I got an email about. Putting them here for the reason of people who will reference this thread in the future. In my case, my clutch was already a SBC CON OFE 13125 designed for the 5600. But I will still need the following items:

1x Clutch fork
1x Release bearing
1x New pilot bearing
1x Pivot ball and spacer (for behind the fork)
1x Back Up light switch
1x Back up light switch gasket

Also needing to be fabricated is a new mount for the 4wd shifter as the mount on the side will be different than the G360.

Thanks for bringing this all to my attention John. :)

It sounds like you have every thing , I have one suggestion ,

Id scrap the idea of useing the rubber transmission donuts , get a set of polyurthane ones

you will be glad you did when i done my 92 to a nv4500 thats what i did because the rubbers are plain junk . If your carpet is in good shape id by a peice that atches it and glue in a patch , thats what i did and you cant tell either .

Good idea in the donuts. Where did you get yours?

In regards to carpet, it's time. Have been holding off actually for the day I would do this. Has seen many winters of snow and salt.

I got my poly mounts at Welcome to Poly Bushings.com 541-266-0890 -- email address removed --

Tell Johnny i sent you I got the first set of v8 poly motor mounts on my pulling truck he came out and installed them him self !!!

As for the transmission bushings/mounts, I used some Energy Suspension bushings I had laying around from some project on my '93 when I converted it to the NV4500... . I think they were radiator support bushings... . not sure, but they bolted in and worked good..... DVolk's link looks pretty good, to me.....
