Mine was STUCK. tried prying but did not want to risk bending it. .

could not get it to budge. I finally gave up an but the bolts back on.

used a tiny bead of rtv at the head.

I guess since the fluid looked clean, and no chunks came out, I will have to live with not cleaning the magnet. For those that have done this, how much crap is usually on the magnet? Do I need to go back in?

Thanks

I've got a 2000 NV 5600 mine has about 135000 one it I tore it down for a rebuild the magnet did'nt have a lot of stuff on it but they are easey to clean the factory sealer is some tuff stuff if you take a good sharp putty kinfe a good sturdy one start at a corner and tap it between the cover and the case once you break the seal it should come off just try to keep frome prying on it I wold'nt worry about bending it they are stronger than you think just take your time take good care of that transmission parts are getting scarce Mark.

I use a very thin screw driver to act as a wedge by tapping it in, then when I get enough room, I'll get a bigger one in the gap to pry with...

I doubt you would bend one, but you might ding a surface... might want to have a file handy to smooth a nick out that might hold the two sealing surfaces apart...

Thanks for the help. . as it's not leaking, and I have to clean way to catch and reuse the new fluid, I guess I will try again in the spring. .

Not a lot of crap in it, good light color, 30 or 40 on it. . Think it's safe to wait.

Thanks again!

If you changed the fluid already, I would just wait until the next scheduled time... be aware that almost 0. 5 quarts of fluid get hung up in the bottom of the case because of the way it is designed... I usually "squeegy" most of this out using my hand through the driver's PTO port... there is hardly enough room to do anything on the passenger side so I usually leave it alone...

I have pulled the passenger side cover only twice... once to aid in retrieving the magnet off the bottom (a 1" square refridgerator magnet to describe it best) and again to add a port for a temp sending unit.
