I'm putting an old peterbilt shift knob in my truck and need to make an adapter. The threads on the knob are 1/2 inch coarse and I wanted to know what size the were on the six speed... . thanks for the help.

I have done a few of them, I doubt that you will find an adaptor. I have to make my own. I don't have the info at home but IIRC it is M10X1. 25. I made a few kits that set up the shifter to run a 2WL kit and operate an exhaust brake, or make both valves on the knob run vacuum operated electric switches. If you need any advice I might be able to help

thanks... I have a buddy that owns a machine shop so i think i can have him make me an adapter once i decide how i want it. How did you go about making it. did you use a bolt that fit the knob and then drill and tap the inside of it? just tryinig to figure out the best way to make it. i want to try and keep the shifter about the same height as it is now.

James, I think that I was wrong on the thread pitch it should be M10X 1. 5. This is a std metric thread. Yes I use a bolt or all-thread and drill and tap it so that it acts like a bushing. The major di of the M10 is close to the same as the minor di of the 1/2". I use a threaded collar over the bolt when I drill and tap the insde so that the bold wont break when tapping. Here is some info from a while ago that may help.

Thanks for all the input Bob I appreciate it. I should have my shift knob by the end of the week, I'll be able to tinker with it this weekend and let you know how it all turns out.
