On a 2005 3500 series pickup with 130,000 actual, 5.9 and NV5600 6 speed with fast coolers. The transmission seems to be harder to shift when warm. Is this normal? Is this something to be concerned about . I have heard the "stickiness" subsides with a different lube like Red Line. Could this also be a problem with the factory master/slave unit? Anybody have the same problem/experience. Never noticed the problem on my 2000. Thanks for your input.

I just did a clutch job on my 04.5, and I replaced the hydro's with the heavy duty upgrade. I notice that mine shifts smoother now, not sure if hydro's would fix yours or not.

Normally shifting would become smoother as the transmission warms. Some questions:

1. When starting from a stop does the clutch engage when the pedal is a few inches off the floor, or when it is real close to the floor? If the pedal is close to the floor you could have a hydraulic problem, a broken pressure plate, or varying thickness of the clutch disc. If the pedal is operating normally, but it is hard to select a gear, you may have a problem with the transmission pilot shaft trying to seize in the pilot bushing.

2. Are there any accompanying noises? vibrations?

3. Is it easy to a select a gear to get the truck moving, then hard to select gears while moving down the road?

4. Does this happen all of the time? only when pulling heavy loads?

Other possibilities are: oil has degraded and is no longer lubing properly, oil level is low, wrong type of oil, and synchronizers / blocking rings worn.

GIve us as much information as you can - it will help us help you.

At 130K, if the hyd's haven't been replaced then they are on they're way. They get progressively worse very slowly and it's hard to notice until they fail.
Unlike the others, I suggest a new factory system. I have had the HD unit and was not impressed - in fact I took it back off.
