Can anybody help with this question? I bought NV5600 out of 2003. I have NV4500 now. I have done nv5600 conversions with the 2002 back parts in 12 valves. Now my question is if i have the 2003 adapter plate which does not use the starter spacer can i just switch all the 03 stuff onto the 12 valve adapter plate fly wheel and so on and skip the spacer for starter. Or is the 03 adapter plate not compatible with the 12 valve where as i will just have to use the 12 valve adapter plate and just get starter spacer.

Search is your friend.

The five speed design flywheel has the ring gear away from the starter such that the starter is bolted directly to the aluminum block adapter plate. The HO 6 speed flywheel has the ring gear closer to the starter, and will have a spacer between the starter and the block plate, 9/16" thick, up through 2002. In 2003, Cummins began using different block plates for HO stick and auto, so the plate itself has a raised pad for the starter.

The 2003-up block plate won't fit an earlier block. The limitation to continuing with your 12 valve 5 speed clutch and flywheel is the spline size on the disk, and the pressure plate size being maxed out at 12.3" with the 5 speed wheel.

The 2003-up block plate won't fit an earlier block.

That doesn't make sense. If the bolt pattern of the transmission (or bellhousing) to the block plate is the same why would the bolt pattern of the block plate to the engine block be different?

Cummins changed the design of the block in 03. There is no rear cam frost plug at the back of the block just a quad ring that seal against the transmission adapter to the block. The bolt pattern on the back of the block IS different. David
