I am having trouble getting truck into reverse i have to come to a complete stop press clutch in althe way then wait about 5 sec

then it will go in anybody else have this problem just started last night iam thinking that the synchro is going but hope not truck has 57,000 on it:(

I had my transmission replaced at about 15,000 miles. My transmission was very stiff and you had to keep the rpm's just right when shifting. I don't remember reverse giving me a problem, I think 3rd gear was the worst on mine. It got to the point of grinding every time I went into 3rd unless I floated it into gear. I took it to the dealership, the mechanic drove it around the block and said he would have a new transmission the next day. I really didn't expect it to be that easy. I hope you have the same luck if it comes to that.

Unless there is a factory defect I'd suspect that you may have missed 5th gear once or twice and pushed hard against the reverse synchro. If you do so at high enough speed, that transmission will really whirl around.

boy you hit right on

yep thats what i did hope i can nurse it a while until i can pull it my self then might as well up grade clutch while im replacing sychros in trans i am installing gauges as i type any advice on installing fuel pressure sending unit westauch gauges

question though trans only has 36 mos warranty????

Try this:

Your pilot bearing may be dragging a little, or your clutch disc is dragging on the flywheel or pressure plate a little. Either way, you need to stop the input shaft/clutch disc from turning so that it will be easier for your reverse syncros to let you get into reverse.

So: Bring shift lever over to the right, put it into gear, [I used 6th gear], to stop the trans from turning, then go for reverse. This worked for me with my 6-speed when I had it. Mine was balky from day one. This proceedure made it liveable.

Hope this helps, Greg Long [the Noise Nazi]
