NVG4500 v. NV5600 oil

I am troubleshooting a problem with my transmission and need to know if by some chance I was sold the wrong oil in bulk (from an unnamed supplier).



For those of you who have had both a five speed and a six speed is there any noticable difference between the appearance of the Castrol Syntorq and the Texaco 1874?

I do know the Syntorq is very clear and thin. Very light in color.

The slightest of yellow tint to it.

I just changed the oil in my 5600 with the Mopar transmission oil recommended on the transmission sticker (to the tune of $10. 50 a quart!!) and I just did look at a sample I had left in one of the bottles. It is a light consistency oil with a yellow to brown tinge to the clear color. Looks very similar to the 4500 transmission oil. Hope this helps.

Thanks that is what I was afraid of. I am concerned I got 5600 oil vice 4500 oil and that may have resulted in my recent transmission failure.

A sample could be sent into the lab to determine what the heck it is you have in there. If your failure was from the oil the dealer sold you. Maybe a little replacement negotiations could be in order.

In the new (1999) NVG4500 I had installed in my 96, it had a 30wt transmission fluid installed when I sampled it at 25K. No problems just shifted terrible. Im guessing it was the NVG5600 30wt fluid not the Castrol Syntorq 80wt fluid. Installed a 75W90 fluid I had very good luck with in first transmission and shifting improved.



Not sure one would have the same luck with 4500 fluid in a 5600.



The fluid I drained was much thinner then the normal 75W90 weight synthetic I was used to seeing.
