O-2 Sensor Failed

In checking out a check engine light, the dealer found the down line O-2 sensor failed. Of course, at 38K miles, the manufacturer warranty was out, but fortunately my extended warranty did cover it.



This was on my 2010 Laramie.



I throw this out there to see if by chance anyone else has had this problem, or if there might be a cause for the early failure.

At the time, I assumed the MFG Warranty was not applicable as the vehicle was over the 36K bumper to bumper.



Now I am curious about that as the downline O-2 Sensor is reportedly in the exhaust and also, as an integral part of the emmission system, should be considered a part of the engine.



Hopefully some of more experienced mechanic types out there can shed some light on that.

also had 02-sensor replaced at 5500 miles on 6. 7 2011 3500 HO It was also the down sensor. The service adviser told me keep the rpm,s up.

The 5/100,000 should cover this especially if it's smog related.

O2 sensors are not part of the engine and not normally covered under warranty. Our Ram warranty coverage is clearly explained in our owner's manuals.

The Allpar article is about cars and minivans and sounds more like anecdotal "evidence" ie rumors than actual fact.

I thought that the smog stuff was under a ten year 100,000 mile thing and that it's a fed mandate...

The O2 sensor is part of the emissions system and will be covered by the 5yr/50000 mi emissions warranty. Please read the warranty book. It explains it quite clearly. This is for my 2008 Ram:

By Law

5. 1 Federal Vehicle Emission Warranty -

6. 7L Diesel Equipped Heavy Duty

Truck

A. Parts Covered for 5 Years or 50,000 Miles

Diesel equipped heavy duty trucks are 2500 and

• exhaust system (includes catalysts);

• electronic fuel injection system, including

Oh really? Was it covered under the engine warranty as I said it was not or covered for 100k as someone else claimed?
