Just a small problem. Is there a small bulb in the o/d switch or do you have to replace the whole switch? The ol girl is running like a bear! Thanks for your invaluable input on this site. :D

I had to replace mine a while back and it comes as a hole unit from the dealer, I can't remember the the price but I do remember the price was not totaly disgusting:--) for once.

Relacement of O/D switch

Any of you good people out there have an easy way of replaceing this O/D switch in this bear of a location? Seems the Chrysler co. could have done better. My arm does not seem to be long enough as it is. Too bad that there was not a foot activated switch like the dimmer switches on the older vechicles of yore. Guess it was too easy. Any help to all of us first generation people out there would be appreciated. Thank you.

I know how you feel. Only advice I can offer is that there is two plastic tabs on it you squeeze and it pops out the front of the dash. Bill

I have heard of guys putting on a second gen gear shift lever that has the o/d button on the end of it. It's not suppose to be overly hard to do.

HEY KEN !!!!!!,

GTSU bud... . :D:D:D... ... the rumors of your demise have been greatly exaggerated ... ;);):D

As for the OD light, I think one of our 1st Gen guys has a solution for you... . SamsRams has a neat OD trick.

Give him a PM and talk to him... . :D

BTW, before I could get to my OD button/light I had to remove the darn dash... it's not that hard, there are only a few screws but you need to be careful when you go to pull it away from its installed position.

On the bottom of the dash panel there are a few "clips" that fit into horizontal slots. You need to pull the top away slightly then pull the bottom away. Lean the top part out about 2-3" that will help.

The bottom of the dash panel has clips kinda like the door panel.

Each clip has a kind of putty/sticky stuff to hold in place as well as keep rattles down.

Hope that helps.

Thanks BushWakr, kind of thought I would have to pull off the Instrument Cluster Bezel. Thought I could just get from under but no room for ones hands. Wish these engineers would serve some time as mechanics before they take to the draftboards. As our trucks age more, there will be more replacements of these. Thanks for the input.
