I called D/C today to check on the status of my truck that I am so impatiently waiting for and the women on the phone informed me that as of 10/16 it was held up in Newark N. J. for what she called a "quality control inspection".

Heck, Last week when I called I was told it had arrived in Newark by boat on 10/10 so I figured I would see it any day now.

Whats going on? Are these quality control inspections normal or is my truck damaged? I want my truck and this hold up is making me   . However, if it's damaged I will be FIGHTING    .

If someone could tell me without lying that this is a normal inspection I would feel much better.

I seem to rememeber reading about this happening with some new 2nd Gen trucks in '00 when I bought mine.

Try a search in the 2nd Gen archives for ordered trucks.

your better off! If the do a quality inspection, everything in your truck will be perfect (well almost perfect). Anything wrong with the truck will be corrected.

I had a Y2K that was built in St. Louis (I special ordered the truck). It got pulled for a quality inspection. It took about a week longer to get. The body panel (front drivers fender) that did not line up was not fixed, nor was the rattle from underneath. I think they give the truck to a DC executive for a week of hot rodding (just kidding):D . It is simply a miner inconvenience for the expecting new owner. Hopefully DC notes the problem areas and does something to correct them.

Update.

Well it looks like I won't be getting the truck I ordered. After many calls to the dealer and DC along with the help from a few top notch TDR members the conclusion has been drawn that my truck is sitting in some corner at the factory. Apparently, as stated earlier in the post my truck got yanked for a quality control inspection. Whether it failed or not I don't know, but one thing is for sure and thats my truck has no ETA and no one could tell me when it would ship.

With this knowledge I decided I could not wait any longer. It's been 8 weeks since the order was placed and I sold my other truck 3 weeks ago so I had my dealer search for a close match to what I want.

As of 10 am Saturday my new truck will be a Bright Silver Metallic 2004 QC 4X4 2500 SLT. It has the following options.

ETH/48re

Premium cloth seat

fold flat floor

light group

trailer tow

snow plow prep

4. 10 axle

anti spin rearend

sliding rear window

bodyside molding

clearance lamps

fog lamps

6 disc cd with Infinity

OWL off road tires

aluminum wheels

hood shield

bedliner.

The only thing I will have to add at a later date will be the tow mirrors. Also, I would have preferred the chrome wheels and Flame red two tone paint but after searching 4 states this is as close to my order as possible.

To those TDR members who helped me. "I know what it says, but it ain't in Jersey. " :) ;)

I like the chrome wheels too, and got my dealer to swap the ugly 2004 mags for the chrome ones. At the same time I got Michelins instead of Bridgestones. Remember, Firestone is Bridgestone and I have never liked Firestone. They always had poor business practices at their outlets and you should vote with your wallet.

The Michelin's may not be "cool" looking like 315's or whatever but the wear well, do great in the snow and are very smooth and quiet. I don't think anyone would be disappointed in their performance.
