Filtering waste oil?

Kerosene/used motor oil/diesel mix

I have tried to get waste oil (deep fry) from a couple places local. They have all told me that they are required to dispose of a certain quantity to keep the price of hauling it away locked in. If less is pumped out, the companies are charging a fee for not disposing of set amount...

I even offered to pay the difference, but no one will go for it.

The local KrispyKreme and Burger King have their waste oil pumped out by a septic truck...

I think TQT might be on to something. Call your local honey dipper and see if they will unload at your house. Oo. Just think, there should be some residual methane in the mix as well. hmmm

Maybe I could bury an extra tank in the front yard so that the neighbors just think I'm getting pumped OUT every few weeks. ;)

TPC - I think that suggestion really stinks. :-laf

Imagine the smell of that vapor trail! Some say it smells like fried food. Some say it smells like crap ... . Mark's truck will smell like the morning after a bad night at kentucky fried chicken :-laf

Kinda interesting. A friend of mine that's a Bio chemist is currently making bio diesel & burning it in his power stroke. He's bought into this & is going to give it a try & if he can make it work I'm set up with a couple restaurants in town that can supply me with about 15 gallons a week & they will filter the big chunks out.

I'll keep you posted.

Lonnie

any woprd on the magic flux capacitor juice?

The ad for this stuff looks like a tv infomercial with less info.

Less Filling / Tastes Great (Beer)

Runs Great / Smells Like Crap (TqT Home Brew Bio)

chocolate milk

were talkin whole milk right I mean nonfat couldn't have good lube characterisics and are we using a 4 year olds mix ratio of 1/1 milk/chocolate or can we just add a few drops and call it chocolate milk like my dad would do to us as kids. Oo.

seriosely though what ratio's for atf 5/30 etc have people used and did it impact fuel economy mainly meaning has anyone seen a drop in economy that would defeat the purpose

The thinner oils DO work best in the fuel. I will add up to 2 gallons of 5W-30 or 10W-30 to a typical 20-25 gallon fill. The 15W-40 out of the truck and 20W-50 motor oil out of a gasser will make a little smoke if you add much more than a gallon to a fill. Straight 30 or 40 will make smoke with only a gallon to a fill. Right now, with fuel prices so high, I will accept a LITTLE smoke when I go up to Illinois in October.

If I have any ATF, I put a quart max in a gallon jug and fill the jug with motor oil. I use only a pint in a gallon with synthetic motor oil.

I used to be one of only a few who added used motor oil to their fuel. Now, it seems to be getting more common as fuel prices get higher. I still "catch it" once in a while from the ones who think anything but #2 is bad for our motors. I have over 80k on the VP on my truck, and it runs fine and has no codes... must really be hard on it. The truck is presently getting BETTER fuel economy than when it was new... must be terrible for the injectors too.

ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) has so many detergents , and cleaners in it that *I* would not use it. Ever see the inside of a trans ... sparkly clean. Gall a shaft on the VP44 and that $. 50 you saved is now washed away by an 1100. dollar VP44. (That's YOU finding it and YOU installing it ;) )

Bio Diesel is a pretty good cleanser too unless it washes oil right off the cylinders I wouln't say detergents are altogether evil but this doesn't mean all the stuff in atf burns properly and won't foul injectors(darn I guess I have to buy bigger ones now ;) )

As for the inside of a trans being squeeky clean I think this could be attributed partially to the lack of exposure to blowby and extreme heat. Also if ATF wasn't a good lube you wouldn't be able to reuse all the parts that you typically can when rebuilding so I don't see it galling a pump but it might clean crap out of your fuel tank and send it to plug your fuel filter.

thinner oils work better

My brothers honda runs 0w20 or something like that starting to sound like I need to make some friends at the local honda dealer I bet you could run it %100 in and old mercedes just a smokin up a storm

0W-20??? I haven't heard of that one before! Man! You could probably add 5 gallons of that stuff to a tank of diesel!!! Since the new, thin, multi-weight oils usually do not make much smoke, I'll bet it wouldn't smoke bad at all even with a HEAVY dose!

That brings up anuddah good point. friction modifiers , conditioners and other doo daddy stuff in there. Not to mention anything over 170* ATF starts to varnish which just CANNOT be any good for an injection pump (Cabinet doors maybee :-laf )

Mhenon - glad to see your post. I have 4 gals of canola oil after we deep fried a turkey monday for Labor Day. I guess we yankees enjoy 'texas style' too ;) I was thinking about putting a few quarts per tank in, but am interested to hear how it worked in the 05? I'm sure the older 2nd gen trucks etc have no prob, but wondered how the hpcr 05 did with the addition of the canola? Man are those turkeys good!!

170? are you using celcius come on now most of us are from the good ole usa in here. Anyway if 170f hurt transmission fluid they wouldn't cool it with through the engine coolant and the fluid in my non lockup 91 would look like tar.

The best reason for not using ATF to me is that there isn't a shortage of free used motor oil

Even 5W-20 is pretty thin stuff. It should burn great!

The trans guys say to shut down at 250*. I have never seen that on mine! I'll bet it would take even more that that to make varnish. The pumps should never see that kind of fuel temps, so ATF will not make varnish in the pump. I don't get a lot of free oil down here, so I burn what I have. Have never had a problem with ATF... but I DO limit the quantity I burn per tank!
