my transmission has had a small leak somewhere for over a year now. i have changed the gasket three times with no luck, so i used it as an excuse to put the mag hi-tech unit on. well it still leaks, so i am thinking the other culprit might be the o-ring on the filler tube. searched the service manual over and cannot find a spec listed anywhere. does anyone know the size of this o-ring? btw, the transmission line couplers all seem to be ok. thanks in advance for your help.

filler tube

Suggest getting filler tube and boot (newer design) from dealer. The filler tubes that use o-rings are prone to crack in the groove where o-ring rides. In answer to question about o-ring, you should be able to get one at any trans shop. I have never measured one, but after 28 years I just know it when I see it. The new tube and boot shouldn't set you back too much and is more reliable than the oring type. HTH.

thanks james... i hate going to the dealer, but will check for this new design... wish texas was a little closer, i would let you just replace the whole nine yards with one of bill's babies... . thanks again for the suggestion.....

what a joke

well i went to the dealer for this 0-ring. "laughing"... $3. 80

for a o-ring about the diameter of a dime. probably could buy

a bag of them at lowe's for maybe a dollar. as a side question, has anyone else had a problem with the transmission pan not aligning well with the transmission. the mag hy-tek looked good and flat so i am hoping it is just the o ring in this case. anyway, live and learn. cya

well crap-ola... i replaced the o-ring and it still leaks... after another careful inspection from underneath with it idling in neutral (thank god for good emer. brakes) i believe it IS one of the cheezy line fittings (pressure line i believe)... the manual says it has to be replaced with a whole line assembly... damn if an o-ring cost $3. 80 it will take a loan to buy the line assembly right... . any suggestions other than suck it up and visit the dealer again..... this guy is gonna love me before this is over... .

updated lines

While the updated lines are pricey, they do eliminate cooler line problems. Get the lines and hoses from dealer, get the fittings you need from auto parts store. Fittings from dealer are way out of line. Some guys have had hydraulic hoses made up, that will work, just be sure to secure them and avoid any 90degree bends that aren't mandrel bent(rounded) so as to not affect flow. Price the Russell's or Aeroquip stuff and the dealer lines don't seem as bad. HTH
