Have a 1998. 5... . tried trick of holding down the trip button and sure enough, some type of code check happens... but always there is no output (or else it not being displayed). Thinking about pocketing an OBD reader and wanted to ping the readership as far a suggestions for models and sources. Either Laptop or handheld is fine...

Thanks in advance...

no trick ... posted long ago.

On this early early year 24V, the one/off,on/off, on/off and then leave on for the code reads doesnt work. What was posted was that you need to push and hold down the odometer reset and then flip the ignition (dont start)... what follows is a little dance across the LCD and then supposidly CODEs captured should be displayed... personally have never seen a code with this approach...

i have an obd2 code reader for my pda. i dont even use it anymore. it gives some live data. freeze frame and codes. can also clear them. i would let it go if anyone is interested. mark

I bought an ActronCP125 Pocket Scanner(little brother to the ones Auto Zone uses) for $69. 00 at Kragen. It reads and erases most codes and comes complete with a disc to download for your computer.

I have the full size Actron, It works pretty good.

To The trip button thing... That will bring up service codes, but they are only for the gauge panel controller. Push the button and hold, key on, the a few seconds and the dash will enter self diagnostic mode-- the odometer cycles thru all the LCD units, then panel controlled MIL's, and the gauges will cycle. If no prolems then it just goes back to normal.
