Is there a diagnostic code scanner or software for laptop that will work with the 03 Ram 2500 5. 9? Both engine , trans, etc. Will the cheap code readers at least work for code retrieval before trip to dealer ?

You can monitor, record, playback, view/reset codes, perform test sequences (on gassers), and view freeze frame data.

You can't make any real changes, just read and reset codes already in the computer. Same codes can be read using the key to send the codes to the odometer display.

pnwradar is right... you can't make any changes to the ECM or PCM. . it's strictly an OBDII device. Clearing codes and monitoring systems is all you can do. Since I plan to remain relatively stock, this is acceptable for me.

LOL, I'm nowhere near stock, but I'm of the opinion that tools for changing the computer functions are best kept out of reach of knotheads like myself. I have enough issues keeping the fuel pump running. :) Nice to see what codes are set, though.

Also

My question to Dan Harrison "Also will the universal unit read the data stream from the transmission

of a 97 Dodge Ram3500 Turbo Diesel, more specifically I need to read the

data from the governor solenoid and pressure and temps?"

Reply "Also we struck out on the Dodge, our tool cannot read the transmission data you are looking for.

Sincerely

Dan Harrison"
