A friend stopped by today with his 04. 5 quad cab long bed
Laramie so I could compare it to my '03 HO. His specs- 4. 10 4x4
w/positraction, mine is a reg cab 4x4 w/3. 73's. The first thing I
noticed is that the aluminum intercooler is still in use. The exhaust manifold is slightly larger, and the engine noise at idle
with the hood open is the same as my '03. The sound of the
exhaust, however, is much more pleasant, and as others have
reported, is virtually odorless. On the road, the engine has a
very slight fuel knock, most noticeable when first started. I didn't
notice any droan or vibrations, and yes, the rear end was quiet,
unlike my '03. In terms of SOTP acceleration, I couldn't feel any
difference. The transmission still has the same TC program as
my '03- no improvement here. When I drove my truck home from the dealership, it was returning 20 mpg on the O/H at about 60
mph. I reset the computer on the 04. 5 at about 65 mph, and it
promptly dropped to about 16 mpg. The accumulated average
on the O/H was 10. 6, but he has a heavier foot than I do, and
the truck only had 300 miles on it. What is a really slick option
though is the navigation radio- he programmed a destination and
it is right on the money
