Thsi may have been asked before. But I prerformed teh first oil change this weekend. Now I notice a different smell that I am used too. I changed the oil with Chevron Delo 400 if that helps any. Is this common, or am I being paranoid.

New oil may give off an odor for a few hundred miles. This is due to the new oil having fresh additives that give off an aroma. Since our trucks vent crankcase fumes to the atmosphere we smell the oil for awhile. Just be glad you didn't use RotellaT oil because the guy's here don't call it "RosemellaT" for no reason.

Stangely enough, the oil that comes from the dealer doesn't make that smell. Neither does the Premium Blue Extreme. Most Dino oils do make it. It should disappear at around 500 miles.

Do a search on oil smell and you will find a good fix for that. I did it on mine and get no smell at all any more. It was pretty bad on mine, every time I would change oil, the dog would start puking!

I just changed oil, amsoil 15-40 to mobile 5-40 both synthetic. That amsoil smelled everyday for 10k mi. The truck never lost any oil on amsoil so I'm sure it was the breather tube vapors. In fact the amsoil smelled funny brand new in the original container. The mobile seems not to smell at all.

We actually sell a product here at the dealership called "disel fresh". It's only a few ounces, and you put it in right after an oil change. I tried it... once. It smelled like freakin dishwashing liquid. I'd rather smell oil thanks.

I had the same thing. I usually use premium blue, but used Castrol. I don't think I will use it again next time just because of the smell. I pulled over on the road after 50 miles because it was so bad in the cab, I thought the filler cap was off or the oil filter came loose. (no smell with premium blue though)
