can my 2005 48re be reflashed to allow for an overdrive lockout? I would like to get a setup where the overdrive would not engage everytime I back off on the throttle when pulling a grade. I can keep tapping the tow/haul to get the truck to downshift, but I am looking to just set it and leave it off when I am pulling grades that are over 5 miles long.

You will need to pull your Smarty to have it installed and as soon as the Smarty is reinstalled the flash goes bye-bye. BD's OD lockout soultion seems to be the only viable long term solution.

I see you have a PB so you don't want to do that flash unless you are prepared to do more mods than that.

Reson is. . because you will loose TH stratagy that is needed while using the EB.

The BD box will allow you to keep your TH stratagy but will require a specific double tap of the TH button for various modes. I don't have one but from what I understand you can be in either-

  • Regular Shift statagy - OD on
  • Regular shift stratagy- OD off
  • TH mode - OD on
  • TH mode - OD off

All 4 modes are controlled by the existing TH button so to me it all sounded confusing. I just wanted on & off.

What I have done is get the flash and replaced my lost TH mode with the BD TowLoc which also controls my EB so I pulled out my PB control module.

I am working out the programming at the moment and will do more testing this weekend.

thanks for the replies. I may pursue the BD lockout option, but I am also concerned by the complexity of the button sequence to get everything working right. I'm more of a skillsaw operator. . one pull and away you go.

I have the BD, very easy to use, love it. Double tap, OD off, TH off. Hit buton once after double tap and you have OD off and TH on. Very easy to use and you get the best of both worlds.
