I just borrowed a friends Auto Xray which has a generic OBDII plug (amoung others). It seemed to work just fine but does not inlude some Cummins specific things like turbo boast pressure.

It is available from Northern catalog from around $500.

I know Cummins West out here uses a FLUKE meter for their OBDII stuff.

a friend of ours has a snap on scaner for sale, purchused in 98,hardly used, will need update cartrige for anything newer then 98.

e mail me if interested.

AutoTap Problems

I had the AutoTap, was NOT impressed. It did not support very many parameters for the Dodge, and LESS for the Cummins.

Sometimes it would connect, sometimes not. Had nothing but problems with it, even on other vehicles. NOT worth what they get for them. If they open up the 'mfg specific' extended data, it would be great, but all I could get was BASIC OBD-2 stuff.

There are cheaper alternatives out there!!!

I've tried quite a few... am currently using Alex Pepper's stuff. It's cheap (well still expensive for what you get) but it works and does what I need. ;)

I have been pondering trying the AutoXray but haven't got around to it. Also considering ordering that Alex Pepper setup (using a laptop).

So kinda watching this thread too... ... .

if i were you, and i'm not..... but....

I have looked at these just for fun, and i would go for the Alex Pepper setup too. Here is a website you can checkout the stuff of what it can do at the bottem.

Most people seem to like this AP-OBD-II, but I got a lot better ways to spend my hard earned $$$'s for first. I'm tired of being stock (even though I did whip a powerstroke last night!#ad
).

The Alex Pepper looks pretty good and less than half the price of the Autotap. I recently changed the lift pump and in the process I got a check engine light. I'm out of warranty and it would be nice to clear the error code and see if anythng else is wrong. I carry a laptop for GPS info on trips and a diagnostic could save me a few bucks if something happens on the road.

Thanks for all the help.

Just got the Pepper!

OK, just received the one made by Alex Pepper (obd-2.com). So far, I LIKE IT. It seems to have AS MUCH if not more than the AutoTap. Still kinda basic, but it seems to work well, still playing though. AND... it appears REAL ACCURATE when compared to my QuickCheck 2 (and the QC 2 has been checked out for accuracy the old fashioned way).

So far, so good. Will update when I've got more time to play.
