I have a 2001' 24 valve Cummins diesel with 80K miles. Recently it started sounding like leaves on trees and bushes rustling and echoing back under acceleration. It did not sound like that ever before about 6 months ago and now it does it sounds like that all the time. Any ideas?

Could be the turbo, pull the air intake hose off and look inside the turbo. The vanes might be rubbing on the housing, wiggle the shaft and spin it. It should spin freely. Just had this happen to my truck. At first I also thought it was the exhaust but no such luck. Good luck, Ed

It turned out the inter cooler hose was blown off between the turbo and the inter cooler. After putting it back on several times I bought a new DAYCO hose, P/N 78601GL, 3"X5" long for $16 and that took care of it. The old hose was blown loose on the bottom so it took me a long time to find it.
