there is a 8510 LB 1500 4x2 and 4x4 - that's right a 1/2 ton!!!!!!!!!! In fact there are only 3 models with more payload.

Looks like it applies only to the Mega cab versions. The rest of the 1500 line is rated much lower. They must use the 2500/3500 frame to fit the Mega cab. The rear end doesn't seem to have been upgraded though (or maybe the five speed auto?) as the towing limits are similar to reg cab and QC versions of the 1500. The 2500 Mega exceeds those numbers by a couple thousand lbs. 1500 Mega 4x4 =8400 max towing, 2500 Mega 4x4 = 10,150 both with the Hemi.

Mega Cab 1500's are basically 2500's in disguise. Most likely the only change is softer spring rates to improve ride quality.

I thought the rear ends on the 1500 MC's were the AAM 10. 5's?? That's a pretty big upgrade from the chryco 9. 25 on the regular and QC 1500's.

This was talked about before in another thread. The reason the 1500 has such a high rating is because it is the same truck with different springs than the 2500. They DCX needed a 1500 to compete with the crew cabs from GM and Ford.

And smaller axel, wheels and tires.

Right, as I mentioned there is something holding it back in the towing dept. The payload is one thing, and frame dependant, towing is another and is more drivetrain dependant. The payload is higher because of the 2500 frame, the towing is much lower than a 2500 though. I would assume they still use the 5 sp auto in the 1500 right? If they use the 10. 5" axle then the trans must be the limiting factor.

I looked over a 1500 megacab longbed on a local lot this last week. I originally thought it was a 2500. It does have the 10. 5 axle and 8 lug wheels. Seems kind of repetitious to me, just get a 2500.

yeah just add the cummins and its a 2500 w/ softer springs hey then it could be like the light duty 250 from ford back in 98

Now I'm getting real confused, I thought Dodge was not making a long bed in the MegaCab.

You're not going crazy Grizzly ;) The Mega comes only with a short box. Dodge doesn't make a wheelbase/frame that would accomodate a Megacab long bed, or I would have one :)

1500 4x4 ??????? Are they using what the 2500 and 3500 have??????

Unlike the IFS used in the other 1500's the Mega uses the same front end as the HD's. Therefore, that makes the Mega Cab the only 1/2 ton solid front axle pickup on the market. I wonder if Dodge could use that as a marketing tool :-laf ?

I had just skipped over this thread until today. While I was have front U-Joints checked this morning early I saw a Mega Cab 4x4 SLT on the display line. Went over to look at it. 1500, wtf, I looked and sure enough it is the same setup as 2500 QCLB 4x4 Hemi. Had skid plates and BFG Rugged trails on 8 lug polished alloys. I could not see anything else different than a 2500 4x4 Hemi, except the badges, real front axle and all. What did catch my eye was the price. $37,600 MSRP. $500 less than a 1500 QC 4x2 Hemi Lariat sitting next to it. And also on the Window sticker where mpg info is for most 1500 gassers stated the "heavy duty not necessary" or something to that affect.

Based on that MSRP no one should ever by a 1500 QCLB 4x4 except in a Mega Cab.
