1992 Cummins starts fine first time -- after driving a half hour or so, won't start -- cranks strong, cracking injectors no help, pumping prime lever of fuel pump no help. Let it sit a few hours or overnight and starts fine. What the heck?

From the Factory Service manual:

"Restricting the fuel drain manifold raises the case pressure of the injection pump which can prevent injection.

If the engine will restart after a waiting period following an unexplained shut down, look for a restriction of the manifold drain line.

Note: Restriction can cause the fuel temperature to rise reducing power from the engine"

Shut-down deliberate -- run fine and strong until turned off

Don't have service manual, will research fuel drain manifold.
