I have a 2000 year truck and was recently told by a local tech that this year truck cannot have the tire size correction factor updated in the ecm. Is this true??

Ive been under the impression that you can take it to the **ealer and they can make the update.

Im selling my smarty and would like to have the odometer correction made, but if it cant be done, then so be it. Ill just add the 7-10% like the old days.

Tnx,
Phil

A buddy of mine w/an 01 said that smarty has a function that can recal the speedo, wouldn't this correct the odometer?

Yes, when you use the Smarty software you can adjust the ABS setting so that your odometer is correct. . But when you put the truck back to stock, you lose the correction factor and the odometer error comes back.

Problem resolved. .

Like Bob said its an ABS update and all the tech needs to know is the number of tire revolutions per mile. For 285/75R16s the number is around 635.

I have a 99 w/285/75r16 and was able to do it to mine. I also know that you can do it to a 2002, because the person that gave the rotation # has a 02. So yours being a 00 model, it should work. By the way, the rotation # for the 285's is 620. If you know an independent mechanic that is reputible, it should take 10 minutes with a diagnostic machine.

MAllen1, Thanks for the input. Yeah, I ended up going with 638 because that is a little closer to the 285's when they are worn a bit. That way its sort of in the middle of being cal'd between new and worn. Kinda fudged it a bit. But as you guys say. . It CAN be done, contrary to what I was told at the first dealer I went to which basically just gave me a bunch of lip service.

Added: 638 put the speedo almost perfectly matched to the GPS with 285/75R16 Dunlop Mud Rovers worn about 80% down so I would say 635 would be about perfect for mid-worn tires of this size/type.
