Will the PC1700 Odyssey battery fit in the battery tray? According to the specs the battery is 13" long where the battery tray in my truck measures 12 1/2" x 7 1/8". I have heard that if the jacket is removed it will fit. I was also looking at the D31A by Optima and I noticed it has the same length of 13". For fellow members who are using these will they fit? If you have to modify, what might the modification be?

I've got Optima D31As in my truck. There are small molded gussets in the end of the trays that you have to cut out to get them to set down flat. I used a utility knife to remove them. I don't think it's enough to hurt the strength of them any. Not sure what their purpose was.

P1700!

I have the 1700's.

I did need to slightly modify the the trays.

I will never run any other battery... .

I drove fron New Mexico to So Cal. with out the alternator.

The batteries ran the lights for over 2 hours.

They started the truck numerous times.

All the while not getting charged.

Yes they are very expensive. (Worth every Penny)

I second the gussett comment on the D31A's. Check my gallery for pics of the finished product. I've been very satisfied with the batteries through their first Indiana winter. I think they look great and I enjoyed the fact that the modification of the trays was very minimal.

Not that it matters, but if I had committed to significantly altering the trays on my truck I would have gone for the PC2150's from Odyessey. Yes, they are serious overkill but the PC1700's still don't match the factory rated reserve capacity (RC). As many members will be quick to point out, I don't think that is of serious concern to most users.

In the end, my choice came down to meeting the factory RC and CCA requirements and the fact that I had to do little to no modification of the trays to make them fit.

Regards,

John
