I have a 2016 Ram 3500 SRW Cummins Aisen 3.42 with rear air bags. I just noticed on the 2020 2500/3500 a 50 gal fuel tank is optional to order. I was able to easily look up the tank part #, strap part # and fuel tower #'s on Rockauto. Has anyone replaced their 31 gal OEM tanks with one of these yet? I am hoping they are a straight swap and do not require a flash from the dealer.

AlfaOBD shows a configuration item for Fuel Tank Size in the Body Module. People have tried setting it to different size tanks when they installing after market replacement tanks in order to fix the DTE being incorrect. So far I've not heard of anyone being successful with getting the DTE being close. The fuel guage worked fine though. I would expect similar results with using the 2020 tank.

Did you check the fuel pump part numbers? I would expect it to have a different number than you current pump.

If it physically fits, which I have heard it doesn't, then you would not be able to update the computer, nor would the dealer, to account for the added capacity. Likely the only error would be in the DTE, which is a guess at best anyhow.

AlfaOBD can change tank size but my attempts haven't worked to fix DTE. Once you go larger than 32 gallons the truck looks for a 2nd tank, i.e. if I go to 55 gallons with a full tank my gauge goes to 1/2 since the 1 tank is full but the 2nd tank is missing.

Titan does have 55 gallon tanks that are a direct swap and they work great, but have the same DTE issue.

Off all the diesel mods I have done over the last 14 years the Titan 55 gallon tank is top 10.

I'd wager the DEF tank would be in a different spot or at a minimum different shape with the new larger tanks.

FYI the OEM 50 gallon tank is for long bed trucks only.

I do have the short bed and did not notice that the optional 50 gal was only offered in 8' beds. Thanks, for the info, I will let this idea go.

Cant remember for sure but think titan does make a short bed large tank. Just took a quick look and they do make a 52 gallon for the short bed. I have a long bed and put in the titan 55 gallon tank a few months ago. Love it. When towing it sure makes it nice not having to stop as often. Would be nice if the computer could recognize it. Even though the fuel gauge works it is kind of funky (not towing) I can go 200 miles before it comes down off full. then it seems to be more realistic then again when getting low I still have a very good reserve have 10+ gallons left. I had intentions of driving to 3/4 tank and refilling, 1/2 tank and refilling, 1/4 tank and refilling driving to empty and refilling and notate how many gallons it took for each for good reference points but i never seem to have paper, pencil or end up stopping at the right time just figuring I will get it next time. Well it still hasn't happened yet but no matter really if gauge is low I fill up and I know even if I hit "E" I still have time though I don't normally push it that much. The only downside is at the pump. If I get low it takes two separate card swipes as it goes over the limit of the card authorization amount.

A aux in bed tank has advantages at a truck stop. It can fill at full speed and you can have 2 pumps/nozzles going at the same time. The main tank you can NOT fill at truck stop speed without a mess.

I looked up Rock Auto but only see a 52gal for C&C. I was considering the 50gal swap from the 32 I have but haven't been able to find the P/N to compare against Titan. I may call my dlr and see what they charge and get the P/N ... still weighing in bed 50 gal (80 total) vs swapping the main tank. Any one done an aux tank on a 19/20? Looks like the filler tube is steel all the way down so I think the universal filler kits will not work to cut the line, what effect will that have on the warranty? I completely agree with Wire... is is absolutely absurd to make a towing truck with this small of a tank to where you have to stop every 250miles or run it down to empty and risking overheated fuel.

That appears to be the only option from FCA. Others have mentioned that the 50 gal mid-ship tank requires something different on the frame due to size and mounting. I would believe even with the Titan sticker shock, the FCA sticker shock would be a deal breaker! You either pony up for a Titan or similar or put a transfer tank in the bed. It's a matter of personal preference on which way you would go. My 100 gal in bed L tank works for me. Allows me to buy fuel when I see good $ or stretch it to avoid the fuel stops.

Well, since this am, I just bought a RDS 60 gallon tank with the tool box on top..(great deal on Marketplace from a hauler upgrading to a 90) Now I need to wait to pick it up. Has anyone done the bed mount aux tank on the 19/20? Looks like a steel pipe, not rubber like the older models so I am wondering how to add the transfer line to the existing filler tube. Are there any warranty concerns I should be worried about?

A local dealer gave me part number 68534612AA for the 50 gallon tank in the 2020+ models (which is also referenced as 48 gallons some times)

I tried EZ Lynk to reset tank size, but my fuel gauge did not like it. It went from full to 2/3 of tank and stuck there I had to set it back to stock

Used my 60gal aux tank for the past 3 weeks, just cracked the valve at 1/4 tank when we stopped to stretch legs etc, and kept driving, DTE would rise as the tank filled in transit but I found I drove / burned it faster than it could re-fill so generally speaking I would burn the whole aux tank off before completely filling the main tank from 1/4.. In a 500-600 mile day I would start with both tanks full and end with about 1/2 ~3/4 remining in the stock tank and the Aux was empty.
