I've read a few posts where after installing the FASS or Air Dog, some members have removed the OEM fuel filter housing and lift pump.

I was told that I would need shorter manifold bolts after the fuel filter housing is removed. If the lift pump is removed I'd need some kind of covering plate because an oil galley would be exposed without the lift pump bracket in place.

The shorter manifold bolts aren't a real problem but the exposed oil galley where the lift pump is,,,,, now that's an issue! Unless there's something that was expalined in error, I'll just leave the lift pump in place.

Any thoughts or comments??????

When I bought my FASS system from Piers. . he suggested to leave the lp and stock fuel filter in place. Run the line from the FASS system to the input side of the stock filter. This way I still have the water/fuel and fuel heater. .

No Worries...

Rick,

I'm assumimg that you removed the filter in the OEM housing and are just using it for a fuel heater as you stated right? Also, did you have any problems getting the system started when you first installed the FASS using the OEM fuel filter housing?

As for the lift pump, you can take the pump off the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is what covers the hole in the side of the block... that is what I did.

Like others have said, you can take the filter out of the stock housing and run fuel through it for a heater or just leave the whole thing in place and bypass it.

Lightman, I don't see why not, don't forget the 3rd. gen lift pump is different than the 2nd gen. pump, our is mounted on the back side of the fuel filter canister... so a little different than the other guys on this thread.

I had a buddy machine up a part to bolt in place of the lift pump on my 03. It's only 4 bolt holes and an o ring seal to the filter housing and then a 1/2" hose barb for the FASS fuel line. Works great and keeps the WIF light and heater all operational.
