I recently purchased a neat little Delphi XM radio receiver for my truck. They are only $94 at Wal-Mart and work great.

The Delphi uses the in-dash radio by sending the XM signal via a cassette or FM transmitter into the OEM radio tuned to an unused FM station. There is a third option which uses an accessory wiring harness from the Delphi connected to the factory radio.

Does anyone know if the factory single disc CD player radio installed in our Dodges has an auxiliary input jack, wiring harness, connector or plug on the back that will accept a harness from the Delphi receiver?

Unfortunatly there is no aux input on these radios. I install car electronics for a living and you would only need to "hardwire" the xm to your stereo if you are having issues with the built in fm transmitter. hope this helps.

Thanks for the prompt and informative reply. The great value of the TDR is that for any subject a member can ask about there is always another member who is knowledgeable on that particular subject and willing to share his expertise.

You are correct, my Delphi provides excellent reception as-is but the booklet that came with it indicates the best reception is available via a hard-wired connection.

My only complaint is that when traveling through large cities all the FM frequencies are in use and the listener must frequently select another "unused" FM frequency for reception of the XM signal.

Since you are a car electronics installer I'll ask you another question.

Are in-dash head units available with XM capability to replace the OEM Dodge single disc CD player/AM/FM unit? If so, is there a particular brand that you recommend?

delphi make and adaptor that plugs into the back of the radio after you pull the antenna cord loose. the antenna is then reconnected to the delphi adaptor. they make one that replaces the power cord for about $50 i have it in my dodge. they make another that uses the original power cord and includes a female cig lighter plug that you would install hidden behind the dash. that one is about $25. the part # is sa10112 and is called the fm direct adaptor. i have one in my company car.

no station will bleed through with this set up and it works great.

i have the roady 2 and hardwire set up in my dodge.

you can see how i mounted mine on this thread

DVR,

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll order the antenna adaptor you mentioned and review all the good ideas for Roady mounting on the dash.

Actually, It depends on which factory head unit you have. Some were made with factory cd changer controls and have an 8 pin din connector on the back which could be used as an aux input. You would just select cd on the head unit and then use your xm controls to run it. I don't know if anyone makes an adaptor for this application but one could be easily constructed. The first thing is to check your factory head unit. Just pop of the instrument panel bezel and then the two screws that hold the head unit in.

Bulldog,

Thanks for the additional info. Mine is the basic single disc cd unit without cd changer so according to your advice it probably doesn't have the connector at the rear. I'm on the road right now, actually spending the night in Wall, SD, so can't look until I return home.

Heck Wall Drug might have one, they have everything! Seriously though, you dont have to have the CD changer, youf stereo just has to be "CD Changer ready", if it is you will see the controls for changing disks on the radio head. There is a connection for the 8 pin on the back of the stereo. You can buy the XM to 8 pin cord at myradiostore.com. Otherwise I would use the FM antenna option as it seems to work well but you still might occasionally get bleed through from a radio station. Also if you want mondo FM transmitter power, C Crane sells a nice unit that you can open up and turn up a pot to get max power. the unit plugs into your XM and overrides the internal transmitter. With the C Crane transmitter power turned up you can broadcast to any stereo within about 200 yards of yours, and of course you will never have to change stations, even in LA!! I was out on a desert outing and a guy in our camp was able to brodcast XM to every vehicle parked nearby, and even not so nearby. Hope this helps.

i'm looking for info on setting up an auxilary input on my radio. it's the infinity package casette with an alpine cd changer. i just purchased an omnifi 20gb hdd based media system made by rockford fosgate. it runs through a cable that looks like that on my cd changer, a large plug, but then goes to a control unit that the head unit for the system plugs into, power wires go to, and then has rca outputs that are supposed to plug ifnto the input on the head unit. I've found the pioneer 1 1/2 din head unit that will work if I buy another adapter, but I'd really rather just use the factory stereo. so uh... any adapters available that you guys know of for the factory tape player with cd changer controls to run rca's to the aux input?

what brand is the stereo?
