Sheet Metal Screws

Dane,

As a kid we all had Beach Buggies for the Pismo Dunes (before it became a no-no) and we used 2lbs of pressure with sheet metal screws thru the wheels into the tire beads to keep them from slipping. Also wide wheels. ;) ;) ;)

That's an excellent article on tire pressures when running on the dunes! I wish I had access to that when I started duning 8 years ago. I learned all of those lessons thru the school of hard knocks! I always have two tire pressure gauges in the truck (one for 2-20 psi and the other for high pressures) for example. Another tech tip that he didn't put in there is to have a core removal tool (a couple of bucks at any parts store) for airing down, reduces your air down time by at least 500% with our tire pressures - just make SURE you don't drop that core!! On my truck I run at 18 psi front and 10-12 psi rear at the dunes - and those are EXTREMELY high pressures from my past experiences on the dunes - but this truck weighs at least double what any previous truck has.

Excellent Post. Of course I'd heard about airing down, but now if I ever need to do it, I'll be able to do it right and get the desired effect. Thanks for sharing this one with us!

Pete, What you mean you need beadlocks to air down to 6-7 psi. I usually air down to about 5 psi w/o beadlocks, but then again my Jeep weights about 2,000 lbs lighter. Get that Blazer fixed yet.
