I've heard that kerosene / off road fuel / not colored works great in diesel? /any thoughts..... ? /the price is right also. . :)

Kerosene is #1 diesel we blend it with # 2 at the pipeline where I load for winter diesel. Depending on how cold of an area the fuel is being delivered to as to what %. It will run on #1 but may effect your milage & may not be good on the injection pump.

here is a thought... off road diesel is for off road, on road use is illegal no if and's or but's, but yea it will work just fine.

As robertyoke says, offroad diesel is just diesel that ya ain't paid the revenewers any taxes for. IMHO, there are three compelling reasons to resist the temptation to use it on-road:

1. The legal penalties are HUGE if you get caught... think "tax evasion".

2. Everbody else (at least, everbody I respect) pays their fuel taxes, so I figger I should too if I want to use their roads.

3. Kids. If you happen to have any laying around the house, its a good idea to teach 'em not to lie, cheat, or steal.

Agreed Dont risk runing ORD!!! the local fuzz can come test your tank when parked on any public spot. The local farm auction at the fairgrounds has been getting hit more and more often.

Anyone know if they have a locking cap for the quick twist style caps? (like on my 01)

thanks

I like the response, just wanted the right people to see the problem using it. thanks, royboy :D

I've been checked twice in the last year. Both in the same spot. They had a 4 lane intersection checking all the diesels that went by, and no way to get around it. Maybe they wouldn't notice a newer cummins if the decals were removed but not getting caught don't make it right and its way expensive if you do.

Very well said!

"..... unreasonable searches and seizures... ..... ?"

when they Dip Tanks????? There is no evidance that a crime has been comitted - This is VEHICLE PROFILING!
Are you in your home? That (SCOTUS has ruled) is where you have protection from unreasonable search and seizure. On a public roadway, the taxing authorities have every right to pull a truck over to ensure that it is in compliance with fuel tax laws. I didn't say that - the courts have.

I'm no lawyer (thank God), but I think maybe you're supposda pay fuel taxes on fuel you buy, not on fuel you burn (I think).
The rationale is that the fuel tax is, in effect, a user fee in that those who use the roads (and consume fuel while doing so) pay for the road construction and maintenance through the fuel tax. So, I would suggest that the premise is that one should pay tax on any fuel consumed to transport one over public roadways.

If fuel tax goes to the repair of the roads, and the toll roads revenue go to repair of the roads, why do they charge tax on the fuel when you buy it on a toll road

I don't believe any state ties its state fuel tax into specific roadways. In Texas, about 45% of the fuel tax goes to fund TxDOT's budget while the rest goes into the general fund (danged politicians  ).

Here in central new york I have never been checked. When they have DOT checks on the highway (in the rest areas usually) pickups don't stop. If I have the gooseneck on I do just to be safe. They wave me thru or want to know what kind of tractor is that? Check in the back of the TDR magazine, N. Y. has one of the highest road taxes on fuel. Yer state gov. at work! pete

AMILLSTREAM-

I'm just down the road from you in Sissonville. Where were they doing the Diesel checkpoint at? My buddies and I have often wondered if they ever did that around here. I've never seen it done, and this is the first time I've actually heard of them doing it. thanks.

You guys mentioned they check at Cattle Auctions, Rodeo's etc -

These places aren't Public Highways... ... . they are often private locations - I'm not advocating violating the law - but I don't see how they can open your tank without your permission! Without sufficient reason that you are violating the law this should be construed as an illegal search..... thoughts?????

I don't know; all I can say Is that I have been checked twice... Once at Cheyenne Frontier Days and once at the Colorado State Fair. I would never risk running red fuel personally, despite the fact that I have it and it is quite a bit cheaper.

Off Road Fuel/ Kerosine Etc

I'D think twice before using any thing other than #1 or#2 diesel if you've got a 24 valve VP-44 pump as these are lubed with fuel rather engine oil as is with the 12 v with the P-7100. These other fuels like kerosene/jet A

lack the lubricity these new pumps require.

If you're in the public parking lot (i. e. , you're not a fairgrounds vehicle) they prolly have a 'reasonable presumption' that you drove in via a public road, rather than being airlifted in via helicopter

Also: my wife's a member of the county sheriff's posse, and among many other things they direct traffic and parking at the fairgrounds. It occurs to me that the guys directing traffic could serve as 'spotters' for the 'dippers' (around here they don't... but they could): "yep, I saw him drive in off the highway".
