hi . the front end on my 01 has been a nightmare,i sure you guys arent surprised about that ha ha ha but i am gonna have to install offset ball joints in order to stop destroying tires. camber off 3degrees on one side and 2 on the other, everything new on front end again.

but i know from experinece never to buy a ball joint that doesn`t have the lifetime warrenty so i`m hoping some of yo guys know where i might find offsets wit lifetime warrenty. have you ever heard of "Ingalls" ball joints?

I had a truss installed on my 02 that came with a CAD axle. Figures, my luck, I buy the only 02 on the planet with an 01 CAD axle installed... .

Anyway, I too have the inner edges of the tires wearing and everything is in spec, I suspect that the front axle has sagged on the CAD side, as the right side is much worse than the left. I had a local shop fab up an old school under axle truss that uses u-bolts on the knuckles and is adjustable using a 5/8 thread nut on each end.

I cranked it tight and every few months I get under there and crank some more on it. So far, the axle seems to be going back straight. Mine was so bad you could see it with the naked eye, now it seems to be getting a lot better. I'll know how it's going next time I go into the alignment place.

My tire wear also seems to have slowed down substantially.

wow. thats interesting! i can understand that though, my truck was used by the origional owner for snowclearing here in Atlantic canada. if one was to drive fast carrying the snow blade and hit a hard bump in the road enought that the axle hit its rebound rubbers hard ,you could bend the axle for sure!

Have you heard of many of these axles bending?

i don`t know what to do ,i have had many shops try to align it with no luck camber is always off tires worn on inside.

i have to try the offset balljoints i guess, if i can find warrenty ones.

There are a lot of these trucks running around with bent housings. Plow trucks and trucks that have been jumped are the common ones.

I can't remember the name of the company, but there on Ebay, they have a million mile warranty on their balljoints. I think they are a 3 letter name, but I can't remember what it is. My friend bought a set and loves them. I think they are about $220 a set if I remember right.

Does your truss rod go completely across your axle or just on the CAD side, you wouldn`t have a picture off it would ya?

you were saying that you could see the bend with your eyes did it bend right at the hole where the cad screws in the axle?

Mine goes from the inner C on each side, under the pumpkin, crossing the whole axle. The bend in mine is at the CAD, on the pumpkin side. From the right angle it looks crooked as heck. If you look at the front of the truck, it looks like the front axle is smiling and the tires look like crooked ears with the tops canted in to the center of the truck.

The alignment shop told me it was "within spec" and these trucks always wear the tires crooked.

I call B. S. since lots of these trucks wear the tires just fine. It's only the ones that have been used hard or abused that seem to have the problems.

Mine was baja'd by the previous owner all over the sand dunes of so-cal and southern nevada in it's prior life, so it's got all kinds of issues. If it wasn't paid for, I'd have dumped it a long time ago, but forking out another 10-15 grand for another set of problems doesn't appeal to me very much right now.
