Seriously need to re-think using Google because they long ago abandoned "Do no Evil." It's an EPIC fail to serve this ad.

I will just leave this here because it's clear what thread I was viewing that this came from:

As for Google, I'd agree they need to be kicked around.... beaten down, even.... They've become nothing more than a data mine. Almost virus-like.... they certainly host enough viral content.

Nike? Hell, they're just another corporation capitulating to the talking heads. It's not that the idiots are so socially justified or even logically vindicated, it's just that they're so LOUD. My momma taught me manners(a few, anyways), and not to shout or speak out of turn unless lives or honor are at stake..... some never got that lesson. My mother called them crybabies. And I'll admit, a lot of what's going on today is making me angry enough to shout, despite my upbringing.... the loss of honor and justice in our society SHOULD make a man angry.

BUT... they have the right to do with their company what they wish... just like I have the right to do with my money what I wish.... and it won't be used to purchase Nike products.... If you investigate them a little, they've been in the political arena for awhile, albeit in the corner shadows.... between that and their poor quality, mass-produced sweatshop products, I haven't done business with them in some time. Of course, I don't purchase a product because some rich, shameless, over-paid, unconvicted felonious criminal tells me I can perform like them if I wear their clothing..... (Guess I just don't have a taste for the kool-aid)

Officially TDR has no horse in this race. Some people support Nike, some don't. Same with Kaepernick. Some conservatives are likely offended, some liberals likely support Kaepernick and Nike sponsoring him. If we start blocking every ad when someone doesn't agree with a political stance we'd spend half our time blocking out ads. Just imagine as the election cycle gets closer TDR blocking every ad with a Democrat message because it offends Republicans, every ad with a Republican message because it offends Democrats, and so on. What happened to allowing people to have their views, even if you disagree with them, without getting offended? If Nike wants to waste their money displaying an ad to someone for a product they aren't going to buy, who does it hurt?

On a personal note about the subject, which does not reflect TDR's views:
Some of my best friends I strongly disagree with their political views, but I am not offended by them or their views. Political correctness cuts both ways, and I think its long past time society puts on its big boy pants and grows a thicker skin. I've seen this on TDR, people getting nasty, offended, mean spirited, etc. when someone disagrees with them politically. Do we need a safe place where we hand out crayons and coloring books, LOL? :)

Hmm thought it was "just do it" as in the young lady in the picture, guess I'll get my mind out of the gutter now. So tired of Political arguments these days, I think my mind just wondered elsewhere for the moment ;)

Hmmmmmm.
I just was watching Tucker Carlson on Fox, and he just spoke a segment about how manipulative Google is/can be and how they can potentially influence an election. They also tried to parlay Amazon in, but point taken about Google. No doubt they’re too big, have their mits in everything, and are too influential.

I really think you’ll find your demographics to show that the majority who are paid subscribers, would rather not see anything inflammatory. Personally I’d rather see a rotella or cummins ad.
At the risk of being put in “The caterpillar room” (toy story movie) it would be nice to have a safe haven that the TDR Forum may have been at one time.

Those ads aren't about Google being manipulative, but rather that someone started a thread about Nike here and Google contextually started matching up Nike ads on not just the site, but also to those who browsed the thread.

I don't like the idea of anyone on the left or the right even hinting that a private company should be reigned in. I don't agree with a lot of Google's politics but they have every right to favor politically, just as Drudge or anyone else can decide what to favor. When we allow the government to decide what is and what isn't too influential, then we're basically allowing them to censor.

I'm imagining what a wonderful idea that is! Please make it happen! And, just to be safe so as not to offend anyone, you will have to block every ad. :D

Business are not people. Businesses have one agenda and one agenda only: to make money. Everything a business does is driven by self interest to survive and reap profits. It is not good or bad per se, it just is. But it is an insult when any business feels like they have the moral high ground to preach to others what they should be doing, especially so when that business is a low life, child labor, sweatshop condoning business which is sending the message. Please do not ever again make the mistake of granting businesses the same level of respect and rights that an individual human being deserves.

I'd be willing to pay more to eliminate the ads all together.
In the past I would whole heartedly agree with this. Now I'm not so sure.
Imo this constant changing of the forum is disrespectful to the members, without whom the forum wouldn't exist. Sure the minor changes, like colors are not a huge deal, they are just another annoyance, but sections being changed from private to public without warning and posts being deleted without a trace is too much. It is with a sigh and resignation when I visit the forum only to find something else has changed.

I fully support the forum owner's right to do whatever they please with the forum. If they feel the need to modify the forum to work with every electronic gadget known to man and to integrate with social media, then so be it, I just hope the owners do not forget what the forum's primary purpose is: to share information between members. If that purpose gets overlooked in the haste to change (or in an effort to generate income, I'm not saying that is the case with TDR, but I've seen it on other forums) then eventually the members will go away. I would rather the forum and the magazine get split into separate subscriptions and would pay a bit more to have both than to see the forum get ruined with gimmicks that add no value or, worse yet, impede the exchanging of information.

Imo most forum software peaked years ago, back when forums' main focus was sharing information. Now that forum design is focused on income generation, to working with all devices, to gather data and integrate with social media, they are all going downhill fast. YMMV

Let's try to keep this on topic folks. Will respect to everyone here, it's difficult for me to address the topic when the subject dances around like a bowl of Jello, lol. If you have issues with other things, please start a thread for each and I'll either address them myself or push it up the ladder to the rest of the staff.

As far as the ads go, as much as I don't care for Kaepernick myself, I believe TDR is making the right call. I'd gladly see an ad I disagree with politically than to suddenly have TDR play partisan games like big social media companies do.

In this case they are not just showing a dfferent political view. They are displaying the same garbage that I saw when some dumb ass hippie was flying a viet cong battle flage from his dorm window when I came home from vietnam. Or agreeing with that "church" that cheers about dead American soldiers.
