Cincy area TDR Christmas meeting

looking for someone to shoot the breeze with?

It looks like I will be at Offutt AFB (near Omaha) on work assignment for a couple of weeks.

Recommendations on things to do and see? Places to stay, places to eat? I am going to be pretty tight on schedule, trying to get done and back to Oregon prior to Christmas, but if time allows, may be interested in getting together with any members that want to. I know it is a busy time of year, I would rather wait until after the holidays to do this job, but it doesn't look good for happening that way.

My initial thoughts are to stay in the Bellevue, NE area.

Good eatin', and things to see.

Welcome to the heartland! You might like to spend a few hours down in the Old Market area of Omaha. There

are several goood places to eat, such as Famous Daves BBQ, the Spagettii works, Buttsy Ladoux's cajun food, the indian oven, the French cafe, and the USDA prime steak house. For complete list of places with addresses see Places to eat in old market.

Check out Old market web site and Historic old market info

Although its not in Omaha, along I-80 at Ashland is the Stratigic Air and Space Museum

If you are looking to meet up, post here, and I am sure that there are some members who would be happy to do so some time. If I am not working, that day, I would be happy to stop down and chat. I am about 40 miles out of Omaha.

About 1-1. 5 miles due North of Offut on Hwy 75 is Amarillo BBQ. The Best BBQ IN THE WORLD if you like real BBQ not over-sauced imitations like in-famous Dave's :D

No kidding; they literally ship their BBQ to celebrities, etc, when the rich and famous have a craving for real BBQ they call Amarillo in Bellevue Nebraska.

Both their ribs and chicken are totally incredible.

The SAC museum is great.

Thanks for the tip on the BBQ. Yea, that is up the street about 1/4 mile from the hotel I am at. I already tried Dave's, OK, but nothing to write home about. Maybe I will try Amarillo BBQ right now, just getting ready to go out for dinner.

No trip to Omaha is complete without a visit to the famed Omaha Veteran's Hospital cafeteria. Ummmuumm... good! :) You just can't beat that government institutional cooking!!!

Actually you're about 2 hours east of the best steak place in Nebraska. Duster's in downtown Columbus has the best steaks in Nebraska. None better!

Too bad you're stuck in Omaha. Don't judge the rest of Nebraska by it. :)

I have the weekend off, but have to go out of town Saturday or the GF will not forgive me. If you are not

tied up Sunday afternoon maybe we could get a few guys to meet up for something to eat around 5-6 in the evening.

Austins steak house is not to far off I-80 on 'L' street if you are interested in a good prime rib. Austins map

I'd be open to any other place too, if someone wants to suggest a better place, and some directions to get there for us out of towners.

Well, haven't heard anything yet, so I will assume that it is a no-go...

Well, I hope we have better luck next time!

Sorry guys, just not enough time with the holidays. I finished my project yesterday, and am headed home today (Sunday). I just don't have any spare time, I won't get home until late Tuesday. I knew it would be a very tight schedule, and everything pretty much stayed on track, I was originally hoping to finish a day early. I did try Famous Dave's and I am thinking of stopping by the SAC museum today.
