man do i ever hate these things. i spent 4 hours yesterday and now 2 hours today to try and get my pc running again. now if i knew something about computers other than where the reset button and what ctrl+alt+del does, it might have been better.

i got one of them little usb flash drives [sandisk 512mb] and when i was installing it [drivers] something messed up and it crashed and wouldn't load up other than in safe mode. after spending much time reading the troubleshooting thing in the help section i finally this morning managed to get this sorta working. i had to disable all my USB stuff and now it somewhat works ok, but i have no usb, so i had to find my old mouse [new one runs off usb] scanner is out, printer is out. i can live with those, but i am PO'd that my external HD is out of service now. it has almost all my files on it, and yes, it is running off usb

so i tinker a little more with the computer [again i have no clue what i am doing here  ] and i manage to get my flash drive to work and my scanner, but printer and external HD still nfg...

it's been one crappy vacation week. digital cam died on me on monday, now the computer is acting up.

Sorry for the problems. My old Dell at home does this stuff once in a while and it might have something to do with USB 1. 0 and 2. 0 being plugged into the same port on boot up. If I was your neighbor I would be right over to help :D

well, i think i got everything working ok right now... i am using the keyboard from my old computer rignt now. my temper is real hot and the fuse is real short, and well, my other keyboard is in 2 pieces and i have a hole in the drywall i need to patch up.

i really should take an anger management course... and get myself a new PC before this POS i have crashes again. .

I feel your pain. If it wasn't for my wife being a computer tech for uncle sam I'd go nuts. I just call her cell # & ask if she has time for tech support. :D Then she has the odassidy to ask me what I messed up now. Nutin honey. :-laf

Remove the SanDisk from the computer and stop the device (if possible). Remove the USB drivers (My Computer | Properties | Devices - I think I am on a Linux box and doing this from memory) and restart the computer. New (non-corrupted) drivers will be reinstalled.

Insert your SanDisk and access as you would a normal device.

Good luck.

What Operating System are you running? Windows XP Home, Windows ME, Win 982e?

This will allow for directions to be given.

Just the key board? I'm lucky I didn't slug my moniter today. 'course then it'd be my fist

Sometimes I get so #%^&@* at the computer specialists that are taking over. They get to stay at home, dreaming up new BS for the working man to deal with, when there wasn't really a problem with the old mechanical systems we could trouble shoot and fix.

Just remember, computers do not make mistakes. They do exactly what you tell them to do. This includes when you make a command that equates to having a head on collision with a wall at 90mph. The computer does not know it is doing wrong, it only knows to do what it is told.

re computers, Rich's post should be required reading for all Computer users, plus it should be ENGRAVED on keyboard, screen and modern, and perhaps a face sized mirror placed above the screen as a gentle reminder. Scrum Down

Rich, I apologize for that comment.

I don't like machinary that is controlled by computers. The engine rooms of most of the ships in the fleet of ferry's I work on are computerized now. If a chip fries, we can make it into port, but the Coast Guard won't let us sail until it's fixed, which often means sitting until the specialist arrives to trouble shoot and fix the problem. The old nuematic controls and switches and motor controllers are easy to trouble shoot and fix.

Computers do have there place, I love the internet and this website.

I'm sorry. Sometimes I hate computers also. They can drive anyone (myself included) nuts. There are times, when I come home from work, that I can not even stand to look at a computer, all I want to do is throw it accross the room, but a site like TDR makes it all worth it.
